FREEING THE WRITTEN VOICE: With Improv, Abstraction, and Flash Writing

Becky Johnson, Instructor

Saturdays Noon-2:30pm (2.5 Hours)

November 7 - December 5 (5 Weeks)

Description: In this special offering from Becky Johnson, participants will learn how to use special techniques to help them unlock their creative potential. Through flash writing, the class will explore using impulse and their subconscious to expand their unique voice. Students will explore forms such as script writing (ie drama, sketch, etc.), poetry, and prose, as well as collaborative writing.

About Becky: Becky Johnson is an award-winning actor, writer, and a creator of all sorts of things for 20+ years. She is the recipient of multiple Canadian Screen Awards for her work on Baroness Von Sketch Show (CBC) and Space Riders (CTV). Her other work in television includes This Hour Has 22 Minutes (CBC) and The Amazing Gayl Pile (CBC Gem). In improv, she is best known as an alumna of The Second City Mainstage, as one half of two acclaimed duos - Iron Cobra (with Graham Wagner) and The Sufferettes (with Kayla Lorrette) - and as the long-time co-producer of Catch23. Her work in live comedy and theatre includes 3 Canadian Comedy Awards, 8 overall Canadian Comedy Award nominations, and a Dora Award nomination for the world premiere of Sheila Heti's All Your Happy Days Are Stupid.

All Bad Dog Academy classes are delivered at either Bad Dog Studio (392 Spadina Ave) or CSI Spadina (192 Spadina Ave). If a class is listed as Location TBD, it means which of the two locations is not yet confirmed. Those registered for a Location TBD class will be notified when it is confirmed. Each location is roughly 400 meters from the other. 392 Spadina Ave has unavoidable stairs (15-20) and 192 Spadina Ave has full accessibility features (ramps, elevators, etc.)
