COMEDIC SONGWRITING

Description: In this workshop, students will joyfully explore comedy in lyric form. Learn techniques to turn your point of view into songs or lyric poetry and discover how structure can influence your work.

Prerequisite: Improv Foundation 1 or equivalents. No prior musical or writing experience necessary.

About The Instructor: Alia Rasul is an award-winning storyteller, writer / performer, and Bad Dog's Artistic Director. As a member of the all-Filipina group Tita Collective, Alia produces the Tawa Festival and has co-created several acclaimed stage revues. Besides her work with Tita Collective, Alia's live comedy works include collaborations with many of Canada's leading comedy artists as a producer, director, and dramaturge. Off-stage, she wrote and produced the documentary 15 Ways My Dad Almost Died (CBC Gem / Reel Asian Film Festival) and is the author of Super Important Filipina Thoughts (ANAK Publishing).

Bad Dog Studio (392 Spadina Ave)

Bad Dog's Studios are located at 392 Spadina Ave on the 2nd Floor. There are two studios within - Studio 875 & Studio 138. Your welcome email will confirm which room your class will be using. There are also whiteboards by each door to indicate. Venue Accessibility: This class location is on the second floor with 15-20 steps. It is not wheelchair accessible.
